ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to lobby New Zealand Cricket (NZC), sources familiar with the development told G.and or News Sunday.
Sources said the PCB decided to take a tough stance against NZ Cricket at the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting for their act of leaving the Pakistan tour right before the first ODI.
The PCB is looking forward to reaching out to influential international players and commentators to seek their support, while in the second stage of the action, it will take the matter to other cricket boards.
PCB’s press release released on Friday stated that Black Caps authorities unilaterally withdrew the ODI and T20 series against Pakistan without taking the PCB into confidence.
Officials said NZC did not share any details on the threats with PCB or Pakistan’s security agencies.
ICC board meeting
The ICC Board of Directors meeting will be held during the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, the date for the ICC board meeting is being finalized.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from 17 October to 14 November.
PCB safety provisions
Previously, the PCB had said that the board together with the government had made foolproof security arrangements for all visiting teams.
“We have assured the same for New Zealand Cricket. The Pakistani Prime Minister spoke personally with the Prime Minister of New Zealand and informed her that we have one of the best intelligence systems in the world and that there is no threat to the security of anyone. like for the visiting team, “he said.
The PCB said that “the security officials who traveled with the New Zealand team were satisfied with the security arrangements made by the Pakistani government during their stay here”.
“New Zealand will listen to us at the ICC”
On September 17, New Zealand will listen to Pakistan at the International Cricket Council (ICC), the country’s cricket council chief Ramiz Raja said after the Kiwis canceled their tour citing a “security alert”.
“New Zealand Cricket informed us today that they have been notified of a security alert and have unilaterally decided to postpone the series,” reads a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Describing the rapid developments as a “crazy day”, the PCB president said he felt sorry for the fans and players, as the tour would be the first since Raja took over the board.
“Exiting the tour by taking a one-sided approach to a security threat is very frustrating. Especially when it’s not shared !!” the PCB president had lashed out at New Zealand Cricket.
“What world does New Zealand live in? New Zealand will listen to us at the ICC,” the statement.
