Wednesday afternoon, Stadium's Jeff Goodman announced college basketball legend Mike Krzyzewski, 74, decided to retire following the upcoming season. Shortly after, it was made official that assistant coach Jon Scheyer, 33, will be his replacement.
Coach K has spent the last 41 years in Durham, North Carolina (46 total as a head coach). His 1,170 wins (and counting) between Army West Point and Duke makes him the winningest coach in NCAA D1 history. During his tenure, he won five NCAA Division 1 tournaments and was named 3 Naismith College Coach of the Year.
Also, announced today was Jon Scheyer being named as the 20th head coach in Blue Devils history. The program is being exhancgw from one Illinois native to another. Coach K went was being in Chicago and later went to Weber High School and Jon Scheyer went to Glenbrook North. Both were standout players for their respective high schools.
Scheyer is the fourth highest scorer highest scorer in Illinois high school basketball history. Other accomplishments during his time at Glenbrook North include a state championship in 2005 and being named Illinois Mr. Basketball a season later (2006).
After his high school success, he packed up and headed east to play for the Duke Blue Devils. He was a consensus second team All-American in 2010 and even won a National Championship that season. Scheyer had a brief playing career before returning to Duke in 2014. He helped assist the Blue Devils program to a championship in 2015.
When Jon Scheyer takes over next April, he will become Duke's 20th head coach in the school's history. He's a one of a kind as there has never been a head coach to coach at his alma mater that has won a championship as both a player and an assistant coach.

Per a statement on GoDuke.com, "A press conference for Krzyzewski is planned for Thursday at 11:30 a.m., while a press conference for Scheyer is set for Friday at 11:00 a.m. Both events will be held at Cameron Indoor Stadium and both are closed to the general public."
